Jews who had been expelled from Jihlava came to Batelov in the Jihlava region. There has been a Jewish quarter here since the middle of the 15th century.

The Jewish community in Batelov was one of the smallest in south-western Moravia. The first Jews came here in the middle of the 15th century. At that time a segregated ghetto with a small square and a small synagogue were being built. In the first half of the 19th century there were 14 residential buildings in the district and this complex is called the Jewish Plaza. The only thing that has not been preserved is the Baroque and Classicist appearance of the buildings due to reconstructions.

The largest number of Jews lived in Batelov in 1860, when there were two hundred. There was an independent Jewish religious community here until 1891, when it was annexed to Třešť. The Jewish community had its own municipal house with a bakery and a ritual bath, which was later demolished. There was also a Jewish school. After World War II, the synagogue was used by the congregation of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and later by the Gardeners' club. The Jewish cemetery in the woods near the village is still preserved.
